The man you may know as rock star Jon Spencer, who did this amazing shit, and who likewise did this amazing shit, spent a brief but fruitful time in D.C. during the ’80s. His band was called Pussy Galore, and they recorded an EP called Groovy Hate Fuck in Alexandria in 1986. Vinyl copies of the record are “collector’s items,” which used to mean that you could trade them for a decent-sized pile of drugs, but now it just means that some dude is probably charging $60 for them on eBay. Anyway, if you only want to spend a little bit of money on a high-quality version of Groovy Hate Fuck, you will be able to do so on April 20, which is Record Store Day. From Spencer’s propaganda machine:

The 1986 EP, like all of their early releases, was self-released on their own Shove Records label. This limited edition reissue is true to the original artwork and has been remastered from the original tapes, direct to cutting lathe, all-analog, under the supervision of Jon Spencer.

Here’s a list of D.C. stores that participate in Record Store Day, and here’s a list of records that will be distributed for that day. See any other D.C.-connected things on there? Aloha‘s Here Comes Everyone qualifies, right?
