The White Mandingos are a supergroup of sorts, made up of Bad Brains founding member Darryl Jenifer, Los Angeles rapper Murs, and Sacha Jenkins SHR, co-founder of hip-hop magazine Ego Trip.

The trio’s debut album, The Ghetto Is Tryna Kill Me (out June 11), is a concept record told from the perspective of fictional character Tyrone White, a black rock singer from a Harlem housing project who confronts issues of racial identity in his music and love life. The music itself is an ambitious mixture of hip-hop, R&B, punk, metal, and ska.

Directed by Jason Goldwatch, the group’s grainy new video for “The Ghetto Is Tryna Kill Me” is pretty random: Jenifer drives Jenkins and Murs through New York City as the song seesaws between bouncy hip-hop and punk, eventually devolving into a full-on punk-rock assault.
