Earlier this morning, Diamond District members yU and Uptown X.O. managed to bring even more anticipation to the group’s forthcoming March on Washington album.
X.O., the trio’s most outspoken member, posted a picture on Instagram of the offices of Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by Jay-Z. “This where that #intheruff #diamonddistrict album got us!!!! In the big homies office!!!” he wrote in the caption. “March on washington will be the second #diamonddistrict album…coming this fall.” Which might’ve led the Diamond District fans to wonder: Is the trio about to get Jay-Z’s co-sign?
Soon after, Minnesota-based journalist Adam E. Smith sent this tweet, which prompted a response from yU on his Instagram feed. “Hmm.. Forrreal?” he posted along with a screenshot of Smith’s tweet. He then proceeded to not exactly clear up the confusion: “not that it aint possible.. just caught me off guard,” yU wrote. “I get it now tho.. [Smith’s tweet] was in response to XO posting a picture of when we were in the RocNation offices for a meeting.. First things first tho.. #marchonwashington is in progress.”
Released in 2009 through Mello Music Group, the Diamond District’s In The Ruff is highly regarded in D.C. and beyond. The group is under contract to release March on Washington through Mello. “No confirmation of anything here,” Mello CEO Michael Tolle said of the Roc Nation speculation, “but would be an incredible look for the team and the DMV if so.”
