The Breeders released their second album, Last Splash, in August of 1993. In honor of the album’s 20th anniversary, the band hit the road for an album tour this spring. Their route took them to the 9:30 Club Saturday night, where a capacity crowd packed the venue to hear Last Splash in its entirety.
The audience ran the gamut from folks who probably bought the record new at Tower Records to people not even yet zygotes in 1993. Twenty years after they’re released, a lot of ’90s albums can sound, well, very ’90s, but Saturday proved that Last Splash is still as vibrant as it was when the Deals and Co. first unleashed it on the world.
