Yesterday evening, a pretty substantial crowd turned up to see The Evens open the 45th annual Fort Reno Summer Concert Series. It consisted of the usual mass of families, old people, young people, and dogs, with an extra helping of members of D.C. bands past and present (Deleted Scenes, Deathfix, and Youth Brigade, among others)—-with a surprise appearance by at least two deer.

Evens guitarist and vocalist Ian MacKaye wasn’t partial when he called for a group sing-along to the “It’s all downhill from here” refrain from “Shelter Two“: He wanted everyone to join in. He and Amy Farina even played the song again—-just in case anyone missed out the first time.
