Southwest D.C., khaki-colored federal wasteland and concrete dingleberry, may be the District’s least exciting quadrant. But when D.C. electronic music producer Outputmessage looks out at the taupe buildings and publicly funded shrubbery that surround his apartment, he sees something many do not: an alienlike beauty.
That’s at least one takeaway from the musician’s new (debut!) music video, which Outputmessage (Bernard Farley) filmed, edited, and starred in himself. The black-and-white visual for Farley’s recent “Heisenberg (Magic Power Mix)” shows the producer and vocalist at the Southwest Waterfront, pondering and dancing ritualistically before the neighborhood’s orb-shaped lamps. After a couple of views, it starts to make a whole lot of weird sense.
