Landover, Md., producer Kev Brown recorded last summer’s South Africa Dedication during a trip to the country. In December, Brown went to Sao Paulo for what he thought would be a two-week trip. He wound up staying there for two months. “I spent a lot of time in Brazil making joints,” Brown tells Arts Desk. “So it was a project waiting to happen.”
Accordingly, Brown’s Brazil Dedication collects some of the music he recorded during that time. Though he composed all kinds of beats in Brazil, these instrumentals have Brazilian samples and tropicalia themes. “Montenegro” mixes a funky acoustic guitar loop with hypnotic drums. “Bossa” blends relaxed horns and light keys for a cool vibe.
