Brooklyn’s Obits was the headliner last night at the Rock and Roll Hotel, but the support acts on the bill were some of the best in D.C.’s post-punk music scene these days.
Cane & the Sticks kicked the night off with their cool mixture of gritty and melody. Mary Timony and her new trio, Ex Hex, proved to be a great add to the scene. The songs, combined with Timony’s incredible guitar chops, work both pretty and badass in equal measure. John Davis and his band Title Tracks hit the stage with a new drummer and played Davis’ power-pop songs with a faster, more garage-like arrangements. Combined with all of the local musicians in the audience, it was one part concert, one part reunion of old friends.
