When Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong scored a surprise hit with their 1978 film Up in Smoke, marijuana legalization was unheard of and the horrors of Reefer Madness still lurked in people’s minds. The pair became a force in the normalization of pot, even after they broke up in the 1980s. Reunited for a comedy tour (the duo was scheduled to perform in a now-canceled show at Lincoln Theatre tomorrow night) with a new movie in the works, Cheech and Chong reflect on pot, D.C.’s best museum, and being stoner icons in a world in which a stoner can grow up to be president.
