It’s been a rough month for jazz clubs. Bohemian Caverns remains closed for repairs after a freak car accident penetrated its exterior wall. Then, beginning this week, shows listed on Blues Alley’s website were suddenly canceled, with ticketholders offered refunds.

The culprit, says Blues Alley owner Harry Schnipper, is repair work that the club had been putting off until they could be put off no more. “We’re in a 250-year-old building,” he says. “Sometimes you’ve just got to do repairs.” Since the club was scheduled to close for Halloween anyway, the staff decided that this week would be the least disruptive.

As such, tonight’s two sets from Lori Jenaire and tomorrow’s from Benny Sharoni have been canceled and will not be rescheduled. Blues Alley will reopen on Friday night, however, for soul singer Regina Belle.
