Introspective D.C. rapper Rahiem Supreme recently released “Original Fly Sh!t,” a strong showing for a
throwaway track. The song opens with a memorable sample from Coming to America before Supreme, the self-proclaimed “Super Saiyan fly guy,” confidently rides the waves of Ken 10’s distorted production.
The rapper, who impressed with last year’s Swag Genie EP, has a distinct ability to pull off braggadocious rhymes without sounding derivative or bland. He can get away with iffy pop-culture references like “I’ll body snatch your moms like Stifler,” perhaps because they’re delivered over a beat venturing into the same experimental territory that DJ Premier did on Jeru the Damaja’s “Come Clean.”
“Original Fly Sh!t” didn’t make the cut of Rahiem’s next project, Lost Gemz, but it’s still worth several listens.
