Hi, Arts Desk readers!

I’m Christina Cauterucci, City Paper’s new arts editor and, as of today, the host of this blog.

My first foray into the arts, circa 1993

As a longtime supporter of alt media and the creativity that thrives in this city, I’m excited to bring new ideas and insight (and a little bit of sass) to the paper’s arts coverage.

One of the greatest privileges of working in journalism is traveling backstage, behind the curtain, into conversations and domains hidden to most crowds, to get a deeper perspective on the people and places that shape the art we consume. I want this to be the first blog you turn to for a peek into those worlds—for breaking news, smart criticism, topics ignored by mainstream outlets, and a fresh look at what makes the D.C. arts scene tick.

I have big plans for my first few weeks on the job, and I’d love to hear from you as I get started. What gets your attention? What’s missing from local arts coverage? How can we do better? Shoot me a message at ccauterucci@washingtoncitypaper.com or find me on Twitter. I’ll be listening.
