Dave Hause came to DC9 last night and gave the packed crowd a special treat: Hause with a full band. Hause, out supporting his latest release, Devour, played acoustic when he was here last—opening for the Gaslight Anthem in 2012—so hearing his songs in full electric blow-out-the-doors mode was jaw-dropping. Backed by his brother Tim and old friends like Michael Cotterman (the Loved Ones, Title Tracks), Pete Steinkopf (Bouncing Souls), and Brendan Hill (The Curse), and with additional family in the audience, Hause was as amped to play as the audience was to listen. Some bands might have phoned it in after 10.5 weeks of nonstop touring, but Hause has never been that kind of performer. “D.C. has always been good, but this is something more, it’s electrifying,” he said at one point. “I want to be clear, I never expect anyone to show up. So thank you for your fucking support. Thank you from the bottom of my crooked little Philadelphia heart.”
