I’ve never quite been able to grasp the Dillinger Escape Plan live. How the band manages to play some of the most complex, intricately composed music while hanging from rafters, crowdsurfing, or just generally freaking out like almost no other band in existence will always be a mystery to me. It’s been a few years since I last saw the Dillinger Escape Plan, and while it seems like the band has slowed down a bit, the live show was still something to behold.
This was a particularly good bill overall, with Norway’s unclassifiable Shining playing their first full U.S. tour as the first opener of the evening, followed by Retox and a set from California hardcore group Trash Talk that might have actually one-upped the Dillinger set for pure physicality.
