April has been a good month for GoldLink. He released his highly regarded debut project, The God Complex,

performed at U Street Music Hall, and appeared on the bill for the D.C. leg of the Broccoli City Festival. At the end of his U Hall performance, he teased “Wassup,” a brand new collaboration with producer Sango, who also appeared at Broccoli City Fest last weekend. Sango, who hails from Grand Rapids, Mich., by way of Seattle, flips a sample from Timbaland & Magoo’s “Indian Flute” into a brand new song, which GoldLink attacks with the staccato flow that’s becoming his trademark.
Everything slows down just before the three-minute mark, in line with GoldLink’s tendency to tease possible future collaborations at the end of his songs. Judging from the seamless way he and Sango took a decade-old hit and made it into something of their own—which is what GoldLink’s “future bounce” sound is all about—I think a full project from those two would be a big hit. “Wassup” should tide fans over until that happens.
