Unfortunately, the D.C. incarnation of this year’s Mad Decent Block Party will be remembered for a tragedy: One dead, 20 hospitalized, said the headlines last weekend after 20-year-old Tyler Fox Viscardi died of an apparent drug overdose.
As for as the music went, as Washington City Paper‘s Matt Ramos predicted, the main draw was Mad Decent label head Diplo himself, with fellow moombahton artist Dillon Francis getting a similarly enthusiastic welcome. Sleigh Bells (pictured above) felt like the odd one out, a live band swimming in a sea of DJs, and getting a decidedly mixed response from an audience mostly comprised of neon-clad ravers.
