“Just let folks have a good time. If they want to dance in the aisles, let ’em,” was the instruction from Spoon to the Lincoln Theatre staff. And last night, the last of their three-night takeover of the Lincoln, that’s exactly what the kids did. Bathed in red lights and strobes, Spoon filled the set list with crowd favorites like “Don’t You Evah” as well as tracks from their They Want My Soul, their first release in four years, and their first since leaving Merge Records.
Local favorites Ex Hex opened. Despite the crowd staying seated, the ladies still rocked their set, winding things up with their great Johnny Thunders cover “You Can’t Put Your Arms Around a Memory.” The Black Cat will host the record release party for their debut record on Oct. 5 with Speedy Ortiz.
