Bob Mould ended his show on Saturday with a ridiculously strong version of “Chartered Trips,” a track from his old band Husker Du‘s classic record Zen Arcade. The track, whose usual run time is 3:33, ran close to seven minutes, with more than half of it dedicated to a majestic sonic freakout by Mould, bassist Jason Narducy, and drummer Jon Wurster. At the end of it, Mould was visibly shaking from the adrenaline, yelling “chartered trips” over top of the feedback, and pacing the stage trying to come down. All these years later, he remains a template for not only how a guitarist should play, but also how to rock the fuck out.

Fun fact: Bob Mould has played the 9:30 Club more than any other venue in his career.
