Before they were post-hardcore idols, before they shamed a generation of frozen-treat-enjoying moshers, the members of Fugazi were just a couple of skull-capped dudes crowded around a piano in 1988, recording a demo cassette to hand out for free.

Even in the harsh light of hindsight, much of this first recording sounds as urgent as anything the band ever put out, if slightly looser in timing and tone, and Fugazi’s youthful moxie lends itself well to rough edges. Dischord is set to release the demo on vinyl and CD on Nov. 18, and we’ll have a full review in next week’s print edition. Until then, stream the whole thing below.
