Mary J. Blige and Gwen Stefani ruled the day at the Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day festival on the National Mall. Blige astounded the crowd with the sheer power of her voice (her cover of U2‘s “One” was jaw-dropping), and the No Doubt frontwoman energized a crowd that was fully sun-baked by the time her band hit the stage at the end of the day. There could have been a lot fewer speeches and a few more tents provided to shade the non-VIP crowd, but performances like these made the day worth fans’ while.
