No one goes to a Nightwish show expecting restraint. The famed Finnish six-piece might be the most bombastic band in symphonic metal—a genre that thrives on bombast like no other—and a tour-ending show like the one last night at the Fillmore Silver Spring is all the more reason to dispense with any kind of subtlety.
Naturally the set drew heavily from the recent Endless Forms Most Beautiful, but also included selections from across the band’s extensive discography. All three bands (the openers were Swedish heavy metal band Sabaton and Dutch symphonic metal band Delain) were in high spirits for the last show on this U.S. tour and left the crowd in a similar mood by the end of the night.
