The Dillinger Escape Plan is unmatched in its ability to put on insanely frenetic shows (I consider it a win to come away from a show without anything more than minor injuries, and I suspect the band members feel the same) even as they run through extremely complex, rhythmically intricate songs. Last night’s show at the Rock & Roll Hotel featured a bunch of old songs, including several from 2004’s Miss Machine, and was so well received that the crowd forced the band into an unplanned encore by refusing to leave the venue. Vocalist Greg Puciato said, “the new guy [rhythm guitarist Kevin Antreassian] doesn’t know any songs yet,” but DEP gamely played through one more anyway, much to the delight of everyone in the room.
