Frank Turner & his Sleeping Souls are self-proclaimed men of simple pleasures, and love to spread the joy that such things bring. Last night at their sold out 9:30 Club show, Turner’s take on PMA from his punk roots—and the joy that a unified scene brings—was in full force.
“I like sing-alongs, and I like dancing,” Turner said at one point. “Rather than doing that Snapgrab or whatever the fuck it’s called, let’s all dance.” And Turner meant it, even bringing on a “dance commando,” opener Jay McAllister, a.k.a., Beans on Toast, to lead the crowd through a jumping jack dance move during “Recovery.” There’s so much joy at a Frank Turner show, you almost wish you could bottle it.
