There was a bright star at the 9:30 Club on Friday. It came in the form of soul singer Leon Bridges, who performed songs from his debut record, Coming Home, to a sold-out crowd. Bridges’ sound harkens back to the soul and gospel-filled era of Otis Redding and Stax Records; the live version of “Shine” will absolutely soften the hardest of hearts. Bridges’ stage presence is still a bit green, but with a voice like that, and a band as tight as his, it won’t be long before Leon Bridges becomes a bonafide megastar.
