Over the course of his career, conceptual artist Brian Feldman has played many roles—dishwasher, spouse, endurance hugger, tweet reader—but his recent hospital visit was no performance: The D.C.-via-Florida artist was badly injured after he was mugged near his District home over the weekend, Orlando Weekly reports.
Details about Feldman’s attack are scarce, but according to a GoFundMe set up by Philip Richard, a friend of Feldman, he “was attacked by a gang… as he was getting off a bus one block from his home with his bicycle.” His attackers reportedly “kicked him to the ground and kept kicking him in the head until he was unconscious.” Feldman woke up in the hospital with a concussion, broken nose, sub galeal hematoma, and a broken vertebrae in his lumbar spine.
Richard’s GoFundMe page is hoping to raise $20,000 to help pay the “large sum of medical bills” Feldman has built up, as well as help him find a new place to live “since he now doesn’t feel as safe where he is at.”
