When it comes to housing, there seems to be no shortage of numbers and statistics. Here’s a dose from a recent report issued by the Census Bureau on new home sales.
- Sales of new one-family houses in August 2008 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 460,000, an 11.5 percent drop below the revised July rate of 520,000 and a 34.5 percent drop below the August 2007 estimate of 702,000.
- The median sales price of new houses sold in August 2008 was $221,900; the average sales price was $263,900.
- In the northeast, sales of new one-family houses in August 2008 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 32,000, down from 47,000 in July, and 59,000 the year before.
