Today’s Washington Post reports that preservationists are up in arms over the appointment of District planning director Harriet Tregoning to rule on whether the Third Church of Christ, Scientist can be razed.
According to the article, Tregoning’s boss, Neil Albert, Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, has already supported demolition.
Andrew Potts, a D.C. Preservation League trustee, takes a rather dramatic tone in defending the group’s position, telling the Post: “that Fenty’s action is ‘going to have negative consequences for the administration of justice…It puts us on the path to go back to the old days where political appointees make the decisions and the public does not have confidence in the integrity of the outcomes. The result will be litigiousness and less confidence that people are getting a fair shake.'”
