Gas prices are crashing like crazy.  According to AAA’s Mid-Atlantic Weekend Watch, gas prices have dropped for 40 consecutive days. The national average was $2.50, as of Friday. From the previous sunday, it dropped 20 cents.

In Washington D.C., the average price is $2.65 per gallon, down from $2.88 the previous week, and $2.94 a year ago. In the entire metropolitan area, the average price is currently $2.54, down from $2.78 the previous week, and $2.86 a year ago.

And here’s some more good news from the Weekend Watch:

“How low will they go?” asked John Townsend, Manager, Public and Government Affairs, AAA Mid-Atlantic. “We expect gas prices will continue their tumble this month.  This should translate to other consumables such as bread and milk which have a high transportation cost component attached to them.   Lower gas prices should translate to lower prices on grocery store shelves.”
