Local governments are asking for funds from next year’s anticipated $500 billion economic stimulus package for green building projects. These projects—-via the Washington Business Journal—-include:
-In Montgomery County: “A residential energy retrofit program wherein residents can apply for zero-interest loans to make green upgrades to their homes.”
–In Loudoun County: “A planned geothermal fire station in Brambleton” that would likely be LEED certified, resulting in 30 percent energy savings.
-In Arlington County: Several new LEED-certified public buildings and retrofitting “20 existing government buildings to be more energy efficient, a move that would lower energy consumption by 15 percent and carbon emissions by 2,500 tons.”
