From the Washington Business Journal:
“D.C. Councilman Marion Barry, D-Ward 8, said he will do everything he can to prevent what he called a “giveaway” of 11 public school buildings by Mayor Adrian Fenty and that there were enough votes on the D.C. Council to stop any sale of the properties.
…”He has submitted legislation that would transfer control of the vacant buildings from the deputy mayor’s office to the State Board of Education and require “reasonable efforts to market the property to public charter schools.” He said the solicitation was an effort by Fenty to “give them to his favorite developers.
‘If any developers want to spend money doing proposals, they’re doing it in vain,’ Barry said.”
