Having just written a tale of NoVa McMansion woe, I am not terribly surprised to see that things have gotten this bad. But according to the Washington Business Journal, local builder NVR witnessed its profits drop 59 percent comparing the first quarter of 2008 with the first quarter of 2009. “The Reston-based company Tuesday reported net income of $17.9 million, or 32 cents a share, compared to $43.5 million, or $7.42 per share in the same quarter a year ago. First-quarter revenue fell 37 percent to $588.6 million.” Ah well, $17.9 million still is better than no profit at all.
