Today, Mayor Adrian Fenty and other city officials celebrated the opening of the newly revamped park at 14th and Girard Streets in Columbia Heights, formally a cement pit with a basketball court.
I haven’t had a chance to check out the new spot. But I am deeply thankful for the fact that we 14th Street walkers will get our sidewalk back and won’t be forced into the street anymore when passing by.
According to the press release, “Demolition of the old park, which featured large amounts of concrete and little usable green space, began in December 2008, and construction of the new park began earlier this year.”
