Next time you’re in Georgetown, drive up to the Four Seasons.
The hotel is installing a new outdoor technology that will generate energy from rolling tires.
The system is a series of “mini speed bumps,” according to WTOP. They apparently feel like “driving over rumble strips, capturing energy from vehicles that are already slowing down,” the same article states. The system’s called “MotionPower,” and it’s by New Energy Technologies Inc., based in Burtonsvillle Maryland.
The company’s website says that the technology “is similar to what is used to power hybrid cars, but instead of being installed in each vehicle, it’s installed in the roadways, capturing the friction energy that is otherwise dissipated as heat.”
