A few weeks back, I wrote about the ongoing drama between gym chain competitors Results Gym and Vida Fitness. The story’s lede explained the conflict quite succinctly: “There are three things to know about the U Street building that houses the Results Gym: It’s undergoinga massive renovation that will see a three-story expansion and a new rooftop pool. Results is moving out. And the gym’s competitor, Vida Fitness, is moving in.”

Now, the Washington Business Journal has a few more details about how Vida Fitness owner David von Storch plans to transform the building. (He wouldn’t talk to me last month; his spokesperson said any comment then about the plans would be “premature.”)

Von Storch plans to add a $13 million, 10,000-square-foot extension to the building…The goal is to open March 17, 2011.

Von Storch, who has been reaching out to community groups to discuss his plans, would replace Cafe 1612 with a restaurant that would have a hip, urban feel and be run by Capitol City Brewing Co.

Bang would be expanded, and an Aura Spa (part of Vida’s brand) would go on the first floor, along with relocated offices. The third and fourth floors would be occupied by Vida, with a private roof club on top. Also on the roof: a 60-foot pool with cabanas, an outdoor waterfall, a small bar and lounge chairs, a member lounge and a fire pit.
