While I’m on the Georgetown retail beat, I’ve picked up a few things. Georgetown Metropolitan went ahead and reported a couple of them this morning—furniture retailer CB2 and Calvin Klein underwear coming to empty shopfronts at 3307 and 3207 M Street respectively (and hey Topher Mathews, isn’t Victoria’s Secret just for underwear? Shouldn’t men have the equivalent?)
The latest thing I’ve heard, though, is about a store that isn’t even vacant yet. According to a very credible local broker, Club Monaco at 3253 M Street is to be replaced by wispy British clothier Allsaints, which currently has stores in basically every important market but D.C.—they’re already in Boston, L.A., New York, Santa Monica, San Francisco, Miami, and Chicago.
Now, it’s by no means a done deal. A Club Monaco spokeswoman flatly denied that the store was closing. But while an Allsaints rep couldn’t confirm the new store, she said a new location was pending, and she’d send me the release when it was public. And the property’s broker, EastBanc’s Marcie Connolly, declined to deny the rumor, saying instead that it was “unverifiable at this time.”
Take that as you will.
