No UDC Law after all? (historydc.org)

A few weeks ago, Vince Gray said he’d love to see the University of the District of Columbia’s law school, which is getting increasingly cramped for space, move to the now-empty Franklin School at 13th and K Streets NW. UDC strongly agreed. Well, it might not be as natural a fit as it seems. According to the Department of Real Estate Services, the rooms are so small as to be unsuited for university use, and since the interior is landmarked as well as the exterior, UDC couldn’t move any walls around in order to create larger spaces. In addition, the school will require as much as $20 million to renovate, so even getting the building for free wouldn’t make it an easier option. As far as DRES is concerned, UDC should explore its options elsewhere.
