Contra TBD pedi-blogger Dave Jamieson, I would offer this photograph of desperate bicyclists seeking a place to lock their bikes within walking distance of the Mall on Saturday. He’s right, of course, that there will likely not be another rally of this magnitude for quite a while. But just because more lamp posts are available on some street on the other side of the Mall doesn’t mean there’s adequate parking—it should be abundant and dedicated, so that people don’t have to use pieces of public furniture that are there for other reasons, like being railings or bus stops or benches or trees. There could at least be some small, centrally-located bike garage, where people know they can take their bikes when street parking is scarce.
