There are temporia springing up all over this town! You heard about the one in Mt. Pleasant, which will open on January 28. But that’s not the end of the Office of Planning’s love for the short-term storefront activations. Another will be opening at 1005 7th Street NW the weekend before D.C. Fashion Week, which takes place from February 21st to 27th, and will house local fashion, design and art installations, as well as host workshops and events. The grant has been awarded to Shaw Main Streets, but the building falls within the Mt. Vernon Historic District.
You may also recognize the intersection of 7th and New York Avenue—it’s in square 450, owned by Douglas Development, next to land slated for redevelopment as a residential building. The corner spot has also been used temporarily as Councilmember Jack Evans‘ campaign headquarters. But don’t worry, Doug Jemal haters—none of the $15,000 in grant money can go towards rent.
