If you’re the kind of person who gets off on having lots of data about how systems work, you’ll want to futz around with the District Department of Transportation’s latest toy: A graphing application for dozens of metrics about Capital Bikeshare, from ridership to membership to servicing.
In the future, I’d love to be able to plot the various indicators against each other, and perhaps even integrate it with the Circulator dashboard, since they’re all supposed to be seamlessly integrated in real life. For now, what you’ll notice is that most indicators are trending up dramatically. But it’s interesting to note as well that the vast number of instances in which racks are full or empty, resulting in the frustrating “dockblocked” scenario, last less than 30 minutes—-a sign that the rebalancing process is functioning as it should.
Being in its first year, there’s no telling whether that gangbusters growth can continue at the same rate. So let’s check back in the fall, hey?
