City Paper is not for tourists
As much as the Washington D.C. Economic Partnership helps to bring in the big retailers—-they run the booth at the annual Las Vegas convention where many of those deals get done—-they also like to make sure small businesses feel loved. This year, they did so with a swank breakfast at the Willard Hotel, and celebrated the following folks:
- The Hilly Awards, run by the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce, for Small Business Initiative of the Year
- Artfully Chocolate Kingsbury Confections, a.k.a. ACKC, for Small Business of the Year
- Alperstein’s Furniture for best 100-year-old small business
- Skyline Innovations, a solar firm that also picked up the Mayor’s Award for Environmental Excellence, as the winner of the $150,000 Small Business Plan Competition
The awards were presented by Verizon, Comcast, Councilmember Harry Thomas Jr., and Capitol One Bank. Make of that what you will.
