Startup cluster watch! Need more evidence that tech companies like density and transit? Acceleprise, a new startup incubator set to open on July 16, has found space directly atop the McPherson Square Metro station, at 1400 I St. NW.
That puts it within easy lunching distance of the folks at the Fort at 1629 K St., and the more casual coworkers at the new 1800 L St. space, adding a fourth to the Gallery Place, Dupont, and Georgetown techie clans.
It won’t necessarily be there forever, though. Acceleprise plans to start out with six startups, and its next class will have 12. After a few years, partner Allen Gannett says they may relocate somewhere back in Dupont Circle—-where the administrative offices are currently located—-to help everybody fit.
The location pattern thus far suggests that Geekeasy, the short-lived startup space on Florida Avenue off 14th Street that will have to fold and relocate to the MLK Library, may just have been too much of an outlier to be viable. (Of course, it also wasn’t backed by a bunch of venture capitalists, which is helpful when it comes to paying rent.)
This isn't a paywall.
