D.C. already has its share of celebrity chefs. Are we now on the road to celebrity hoteliers?

First there was Donald Trump, who’s turning the Old Post Office building on Pennsylvania Avenue NW into a luxury hotel. Now, reports Bisnow in its real estate newsletter, Sir Richard Branson is looking to get in on the action.

According to Bisnow, Virgin Hotels plans to enter the District with either a new construction or a renovation of a historic building. There’s no timeframe for the project.

Apparently Virgin considered bidding on Georgetown’s West Heating Plant, the difficult-to-renovate building whose auction closed in March, and it’s also had an eye on the Southwest Waterfront and the Embassy Row hotel on Massachusetts Avenue NW.

The Donald, take notice: The D.C. hotel market celebrity hair battle is on!
