The incident at the L’Enfant Plaza Metro station that filled the tunnel and platforms with smoke and caused two train lines to be suspended has claimed a victim.
A woman died after suffering injuries in the smoke-filled Metro tunnel by L’Enfant Plaza, outgoing Metro General Manager Richard Sarles said at a press conference, according to The Washington Post and NBC4. A Metro spokesman did not immediately return a call for comment, and D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Timothy Wilson could not confirm the fatality.
Wilson says the cause of the incident, which led the L’Enfant Plaza Metro station to be evacuated, is still being investigated.
