I don’t believe a white tablecloth improves the dining experience. Neither does an overly fawning server. Some of my favorite dinners and lunches, in fact, have come from the semi-rude clods who can barely muster enough humanity to hand me my carryout order. I figure I’m not alone on that count. On any given week, I suspect a great many Washingtonians drive to their favorite takeout and either scarf their order right in the car or spirit off to the nearest sit-down spot, lest their meal turn into a soft, squishy mess in the Styrofoam clamshell.

In other words: No list of mine is complete without a few of my favorite takeouts.
