Half of this week’s beer events are homecoming parties for the same beer: Tuppers’ Hop Pocket Ale. After a two-year hiatus, this hoppy delight is back, and you’ll have four chances to celebrate it’s revival with the local couple that brews it.
On Tuesday, you can catch the Tuppers at Hard Times Cafe in Bethesda. Wednesday night they’ll be at the Brickskeller. Thursday they are at Columbia Fire House in Old Town Alexandria, and Saturday afternoon they’ll be at Norm’s Beer & Wine out in Vienna. See our DC Beer Events calendar below for details.
Bob Tupper, a high school history teacher, and Ellie Tupper, a scientific book editor, have been brewing together for over 15 years and sharing their beer enthusiasms with like-minded folks around DC for even longer. If you’ve ever been to a beer event at the Brickskeller, it’s likely you’ve heard Bob use his M.C. role to shamelessly promote Tuppers’ beers.
Are they worth the hype? Many think so, but you will have to decide. We can say that Hop Pocket beers have won three medals at the Great American Beer Festival, golds in 1997 and 2001 and a bronze in 2005. They also received a lot of favorable praise by legendary beer writer Michael Jackson.
If Hop Pocket doesn’t sound like your thing, check out our calendar and take your pick. Our favorite event this week? We are looking forward to being guided through eight Clipper City Heavy Seas beer and food pairings by Mr. Clipper City himself, Hugh Sisson thisFriday at Bilbo Baggins in Alexandria.
