The Black Squirrel will be having a firkin of beer every Friday to help all you cogs wind down from the week and start each weekend out right. Co-owner Amy Bowman, who credits J.T. Smith of Flying Dog for helping to inspire the program, says it has been pretty easy to just throw a cask up on the bar and start pumping.
Last Friday the Squirrel had a delicious cask of Heavy Seas Loose Cannon IPA, and tonight the firkin will be Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter. (We have had this beer from cask before and it hasn’t disappointed us yet.)
The Reef had a Thursday Firkin program for awhile last year that is supposed to start up again this summer. We’ve had our eye on the board outside but haven’t seen one yet. The Lagerheads are definitely looking forward to more real ale in the neighborhood.
Bowman and her bar manager and brewer-in-process Hollie Stephenson have done a lot to help Adams Morgan become a better place to get craft beer. The Reef, Bourbon, Tryst, and L’Enfant Cafe have been our other Adams Morgan go-to’s. What are yours?
