Some big names are visiting our little beer-loving city this week. Monday night Birch & Barley is hosting a beer dinner with Garrett Oliver, renowned food and beer expert and brewmaster at Brooklyn Brewery. If a fancy-pants sit-down dinner is too rich for your blood, you can head upstairs to ChurchKey where 5 rare casks of Brooklyn beer will be poured, including Sabroso Ale, Cookie Jar Porter, Dark Matter, East India Pale Ale, and Best Bitter, cask version of Pennant Pale Ale.
Tuesday Rob Tod, founder and owner of Allagash Brewing Company will be at The Reef to chat with guests and share some of his great beer, including a special keg of Confluence and a new release of Brother Darryl, a Belgian-style Strong Golden Ale with Brettanomyces yeast and barrel-aged in wine barrels.
On Saturday, the Brickskeller is hosting a special event featuring Pennsylvania brewers and beers. The lineup includes Yards Brewing Company from Philadelphia and founder Tom Kehoe, Phoenixville’s Sly Fox Brewing Company and brewmaster Brian O’Reilly, Bullfrog Brewery from Williamsport and head brewer Terry Hawbaker, and Pittsburgh’s East End Brewing Company and owner Scott Smith.
Also, like every Monday, Room 11 will tap a keg of a special guest beer. This week is La Trou du Diable Weizgripp Doppelweizenbock (which means its got the best that German beer has to offer—wheat, extra malt, and a nice high ABV). We had the chance to taste this beer at the brewery in Quebec and it was our absolute favorite of the night.
