You may have expected it to be a quiet few days after last week’s D.C. Beer Week mania. Not so! Those of you in the “hair of the dog” camp will be thrilled to see the beer events lined up this week. Starting the week is Monday’s usual rare beer guest tap at Room 11. This time around bar manager and co-owner Dan Searing has procured a keg of one of The Lagerheads‘ all time favorites, Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse, an 8.5%-ABV hopped weizenbock (or extra malty, strong, unfiltered wheat beer).
Also on Monday, Brian Strumke will be at ChurchKey with his latest creation from Stillwater Artisanal Ales. “Of Love and Regret” is a 7.2%-ABV spring Saison brewed with lavender, chamomile, dandelion, and heather tips. Only ten kegs of this Stillwater Import Series beer will hit U.S. shores from Beerzel, Belgium, where Strumke brewed it with t’ Hofbrouwerijke.
As if that wasn’t enough, the overachievers at ChurchKey are bringing beer fiends back Tuesday night for the D.C. draft launch of Dogfish Head Bitches Brew, a beer that commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Miles Davis album of the same name. The anniversary editions of the album and bottles of this 9%-ABV blend of an Imperial Stout and a honey beer bittered with gesho root are due on shelves this week. Also on tap will be Theobroma and Sah’Tea from Dogfish Head’s Ancient Ales series, Fort and Olde School Barleywine 2009 from their long line of knock-you-on-your-ass, big beers, and Pangaea, a beer made with ingredients from every continent.
Tuesday is a busy night. The Black Squirrel is hosting a beer Tweet Up organized by DCBeer.com contributor Bill DeBaun that will feature rarities like SweetWater 420 Extra Pale Ale, Mad River Steelhead Extra Pale Ale, Sly Fox Phoenix Pale Ale, and Dixie Blackened VooDoo Munich Dunkel. That’s a lot of pale ales and one dark lager! Also on Tuesday is Belga Café’s monthly Belgian beer dinner, this time led by Duvel/Ommegang/Maredsous/D’Achouffe/Liefmans Market Manager Steven Cardello. (Yes there is a story behind all those slashes and perhaps we will blog about it, but until then just imagine some more-exciting-than-reality story about Belgian imperialism.)
On Wednesday, Tuscarora Mill in Leesburg will have a multi-course pairing dinner featuring beers from Victory Brewing Company. If you are sick of seeing our posts about events at Tuscarora Mill or sister restaurant Magnolias but not able to get out to Virginia to sample from their stellar beer lists, we have good news. The same owners opened a beer-focused pizzeria, Fire Works Pizza, in Clarendon last week. We haven’t visited yet but according to Thomas Cizauskas at YoursForGoodFermentables.com, they have 30 taps, 2 cask lines, and will be filling growlers to go. Awesome! (More later…)
In a unique pairing, Thursday Chinatown Coffee Company and Red Hook Lobster Pound DC have joined forces for a lobster roll / IPA happy hour. From 6:30 to 8:30pm, you can get Red Hook treats from their truck outside and $3 Lagunitas IPA and Dale’s Pale Ale inside. Sounds like an interesting match.
