When the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, a manly organization that I imagine exudes the unmistakable aroma of musk and cooked meats, tells you that September 18 is National Cheeseburger Day, you’d best not argue.
Except for this one little problem: Z Burger, the local chain-let, is celebrating National Cheeseburger Day today. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Z Burger is selling $1 cheeseburgers, an offer so generous that even the Cattlemen’s Beef Board might be willing to ignore the calendar and give in to its carnivore urges.
Of course, the deal is not as good as the one Z Burger offered two years ago, when it was giving them cheeseburgers away for nothing. But even at a buck, you’re saving about $2.70. Whether that’s worth waiting in the inevitable Georgetown Cupcake-esque line is a whole ‘nother question.
And did I mention that, in order to take advantage of the offer, you have to utter the phrase “Cheeseburger, Freeburger,” which is not only silly but also inaccurate. Personally, I think I’ll be celebrating National Cheeseburger Day at BGR: The Burger Joint.
