Another good week in beer for District drinkers. I’ve put a few tantalizing details below, but for more info on any event click on it in our D.C. Beer Events Calendar above.
Hanukkah may be over but the celebration continues with yet another He’brew Jewbelation event from Schmaltz Brewing Company. Tonight head He’Brew himself Jeremy Cowen will be at Star & Shamrock on H Street, NE, to talk Schmaltz and sign copies of his new book, Craft Beer Bar Mitzvah.
Also tonight, Greg Engert is leading a holiday beer tasting at Birch & Barley that will feature gems like Père Noël from Brouwerij De Ranke in West Flanders, Belgium and Red/White Christmas from Mikkeller. You can whet your appetite with this video.
And Ella’s Wood Fired Grill is having a firkin party highlighting Troegs Brewing Company. On cask will be Troegs Pale Ale. Mad Elf Christmas Ale and Troegenator Doppelbock will also available, as will a paired beer and pizza special for $15.
On Tuesday, Blue Ridge in Glover Park is hosting a paired dinner featuring a new (old) release from Guinness, Guinness Foreign Extra Stout. The dinner is $20 per person or $30 per couple and includes pairings with Smithwick’s Ale and Harp Lager, two other beers from Ireland.
On Wednesday, enjoy a Festivus (for the rest of us) celebration at either Rustico location. There may be feats of strength and airing of grievances, but you are more likely to come away from this party with a belly full of Christmas beers and more beer glasses than you have room for.
Friday afternoon IPA fans should take note that Mad Fox Brewpub in Falls Churchis tapping the follow-up to their recent IPA trilogy (Snap, Autumnus and Orange Whip IPAs), Snapped IPA. The new brew is described as a bigger version of Snap IPA, made with more malt and more hops.
Later on, continue the big beer theme at the Black Squirrel in Adams Morgan with shots of BrewDog’s ABV heavy-weights Sink the Bismarck and Tactical Nuclear Penguin. The “high-octane” event features complimentary hors d’oeuvres such as Scotch pie, Scottish eggs and smoked Scottish salmon in honor of the Scotland-based brewery.
On Saturday, Flying Dog Brewery and Brightest Young Things are throwing a art car light parade from Georgetown to Chevy Chase that includes everything from CakeLove cupcakes made with Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter to a live reading of How the Grinch Stole Christmas at Politics and Prose to a rock concert at Comet Ping Pong.
On Sunday, Ripple in Cleveland Park will host a Great Lakes night featuring all five of the Cleveland brewery’s year-round beers and the oh-so-popular Great Lakes Christmas Ale.
Oh, and Victory Yakima Glory (the beer formerly known as Yakima Twilight) is the guest tap this week at Room 11. Delicious.
